ROAM BLK is a platform for Black travelers and the diaspora to plan trips, find travel buddies, share experiences, and help each other travel safely and joyfully. These Community Guidelines explain what we expect from everyone who uses ROAM BLK. They apply alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Use your real name and a real photo. One person, one account. Don't impersonate anyone else, claim to be from somewhere you aren't, or pretend to have visited places you haven't.
ROAM BLK is a community first. Disagreement is fine; harassment, threats, slurs, doxxing, and discrimination are not. We have zero tolerance for content or behavior that targets people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
After a trip you've told us about, we may invite you to complete a 1-minute, 5-question safety check-in. Your answers help future ROAM BLK travelers and feed our Travel Buddy matching. Treat this responsibly:
How we calculate Community Safety Ratings. We blend a curated baseline with traveler ratings, weight recent ratings more heavily than older ones, dampen single uncorroborated extreme ratings (whether very high or very low) until other travelers report similar experiences, and trim outlier responses once a destination has enough data. Ratings only become public once a destination has reached a minimum sample of meaningful responses. We segment scores by context (such as time of day or whether the traveler was solo) so a single number doesn't paper over real differences in experience. Our algorithm is symmetric — it doesn't favor good or bad ratings — and the methodology version is logged on every published score.
Your comments, posts, and trip-survey notes can help fellow travelers. Keep them useful:
Connecting with strangers requires good faith on both sides. Don't use Travel Buddy or DMs for romantic or sexual advances unless the other person has clearly opted in. Don't pressure people to meet, share location, or commit to plans. Respect "no" the first time.
If you arrange to meet another ROAMer in person, take normal precautions — meet in public first, share your plans with someone you trust, and trust your gut.
Hosts are also bound by the Host Terms of Service, which include specific rules about ratings, retaliation, and incentivized reviews. In addition to those Host Terms, the rules above apply to all interactions you have on the platform.
Don't use Nova to generate content that violates these Guidelines, and don't pass off AI-generated reviews, ratings, or trip reports as your own personal experience. Nova's responses can be wrong, especially about safety; verify before relying on them.
Depending on severity, frequency, and intent, we may:
If your content is removed, your rating is dampened, or your account is suspended, you can appeal by emailing trust@weareroam.app within 30 days. Include your username, what was actioned, and why you believe the action was wrong. We review appeals in good faith. ROAM BLK's decision on appeals is final.
Use the appeal process above. ROAM BLK does not remove ratings or comments simply because they reflect poorly on a destination, neighborhood, or business — we only remove content that violates these Guidelines (for example, ratings from users who didn't take the trip, coordinated brigades, or comments containing false statements of fact). Subjective opinions, even unflattering ones, are protected.
We update these Guidelines as the platform grows. Material changes are announced in-app and by email. Continued use of ROAM BLK after changes take effect means you accept the updated Guidelines.
